Christmas New Year breaks holidays Cornwall Devon Somerset Dorset

Christmas New Year breaks holidays Cornwall Devon Somerset Dorset: "If the demands and rituals of Christmas at home leave you feeling exhausted and jaded, perhaps it’s time for a break. Why not run away to the country this Yuletide and re-discover genuine peace and good will?

Farm and country holidays in the South West of England are great all year round, but particularly at Christmas when cosy cottages, log fires, delicious local food and a warm welcome help you relax, recharge and really enjoy this special time of year."

Christmas holidays, weekend breaks, and tourist accomodation in Cornwall

Christmas holidays, weekend breaks, and tourist accomodation in Cornwall: "A Cornish Christmas is an event. Lights and decorations go up in all Cornish towns and villages and there is a tremendous atmosphere. Each town has it's seperate late night for shopping, and on that night the streets are packed. I went to Truro on my first year back in Cornwall and there was a throng of people in the city centre, all enjoying themselves as if the extended shopping hours were little more than an excuse for socialising. Cornwall is largely a rural community, and a Christmas visit to (say) Truro or Penzance can still hold a significance which has been lost in other areas. "

Mousehole Christmas Lights

For a Cornwall Xmas the Illuminations at Mousehole take some beating. Mousehole is a Cornish fishing village in West Cornwall with a most beautiful harbour. In late September the village begins preparation for their famous Cornwall Christmas Lights, raising money for charity for nearly 40 years. Illuminated usually from the Saturday in the Middle of December, until the Friday at the end of the first week of the New Year. Switching on Ceremony, usually with Mousehole Male Voice Choir and a Brass Band present.
